Student Teaching

 

Admission to Student Teaching will be granted if students:
Note: Student Teaching Application Request for Placement must be submitted to the Office of Educator Preparation Program by the application deadline. This should be filed one semester prior to the intended semester for the student teaching experience.

  • Are admitted to Educator Preparation Program
  • Complete and submit the appropriate application one semester in advance of the Student Teaching Semester by the deadline
  • Have a cumulative 2.75 GPA on all courses taken
  • Have a 2.75 GPA in teaching specialty area
  • Complete a minimum of 80% of course work in the endorsement area(s) including all methods courses
  • Pass ALL Praxis exams required for licensure in declared major.*

*The State Department of Education establishes passing scores for the CORE, Praxis II Subject Assessments, and Principles of Learning and Teaching exams. The scores are subject to change each year. In order to obtain the current passing scores when tests are taken, check with the Office of Educator Preparation Program located in 205 Gooch Hall.

 

Student Teaching Application Information
Application for student teaching must be filed with the Office of Educator Preparation Program one semester prior to the student teaching semester. If the deadline falls on a Saturday or Sunday, the application will be due the following Monday. Permanent deadlines for student teaching applications are:

 

September 30 for the following Spring Semester
January 30 for the following Fall Semester

Request for Deadline Extension of Praxis Score Results

Admission to Student Teaching will be granted if students meet all criteria by stated deadlines. Passing scores for all required Praxis exams must be received in the Office of Educator Preparation Program by the last day of the semester before student teaching begins.

 

The request for deadline extension has been developed for students who have registered or taken the required Praxis exams but cannot provide a passing score within the timeframe required. This form must be completed and submitted no later than the stated deadline for score receipt (last day of the semester before student teaching begins). Students must complete the form on-line, sign, and submit to the Coordinator of Field Placements, 205C Gooch Hall by deadline.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

 

"NEW" Effective Fall 2015, students must pass ALL Praxis exams required for licensure prior to being admitted to student teaching. For additional information, contact the Office of Educator Preparation Program located in 205 Gooch Hall.

 

Effective Fall 2013, a $400 Student Teaching Placement fee will be charged to your Banner account upon registration for student teaching courses. You may view this charge when fees are assessed for the term you plan to student teach. Financial aid may be used to cover this expense. The Cooperating Teacher at each placement will be compensated $200. The Office of ESS will process all paperwork associated with the payment that will be mailed directly to the Cooperating Teacher.

 

To begin the student teaching application process, please follow the steps below.

  • Step 1:
    • Click to complete the Autobiographical Data Form. The form must be typed and you must attach 4 copies of the form to the student teaching application for your major
  • Step 2:
    • Click to Complete Part I-Submit On-line. Part I should be typed, printed, and submitted online. The printed copy must be included with the student teaching application for your major.
      Please use an internet browser other than Internet Explorer (I.e., Firefox, Chrome, etc.) OR click on the link that says "Open this content in a new window".
  • Step 3:
    • Choose the appropriate student teaching application for your major. A list of majors is provided below. Click on your major. Complete Part II. Print, read, and sign the instruction page. Your faculty advisor must fill out and sign Part III.

Submit to the Office of Educator Preparation Program, 205 Gooch Hall:
Your photo (1 copy)
4 copies of your typed Autobiographical Data Form
Your completed student teaching application for your major with your advisor's signature and Part I that was submitted online.

 

NOTE: Your application will not be considered COMPLETE until the on-line process AND required hard copy documents are received in the Office of Educator Preparation Program.

 

DEADLINE:

Strict placement request deadlines prohibit late application submissions

 

Important Note:
The Coordinator of Field Placements, Ms. Staci Fuqua, is the only person who should contact a school or central office regarding placements. Students WILL NOT attempt to contact schools under any circumstances. All students will be notified once placements have been secured.
