Knowledge, Skills, and Applications: Assessment
Title of Evidence: Author Study
Date Created: April 2003
Course Created In: Library Service 325
Introduction and Explanation: The author study assignment required us to study many elements of one author. From this information that we gathered we constructed a learning center where students could be informed about this author. The learning center also featured an activity based on the books the author had written.
Interpretation
and Reflection:
I felt this assignment was based on assessment. It required that I assess
information on the author and place that information into categories of a
notebook. I evaluated and assessed books that the author had written and discussed
different kinds of writing. I also had to look at the books and their content
and decide what grade level this would be appropriate for and create an activity
that was within this age group. There were many websites that had to be used
for various information and also had to be age appropriate. The assessment
that went into this assignment was lucrative but beneficial. I learned a lot
of interesting information about the author and I was able to apply my skills
and knowledge into constructing the learning center. I used my knowledge of
what was and was not appropriate reading material and activities for certain
age groups. I also used skills to find resources that would compliment the
subject and activity. The experience was beneficial to me in the classroom
because it allowed me to become aware of different authors and how to incorporate
literature into all aspects of the curriculum.
