Dispositions

Admission to the TEP (Teacher Education Program) requires an interview with a team that may be comprised of Unit faculty members, faculty or administrators from P-12 schools or a combination of both. Further, the candidate must meet criteria for a "disciplinary" clearance. A list of all students meeting admission requirements to teacher education is forwarded to the University Student Affairs Division. Official inquiries are made to ascertain if any applicant possesses a criminal record or if there is a history of disciplinary actions at this or any college or university previously attended.

The following dispositions characterize the UTM teacher education initial licensure:

Interacts positively with peers, faculty, and P-12 personnel.
Demonstrates self-respect and respect for others.
Accepts constructive criticism and is willing to modify one's behavior.
Assumes responsibility when appropriate.
Attempts to solve problems independently and in a fair-minded manner.
Exhibits interest in the learner and enthusiasm for the learning process.
Behaves in a professional manner and in accordance with TEP guidelines.

After admission to the TEP, candidates are reviewed regularly for program retention.

During the last week of each semester, faculty teaching classes having TEP admission as a prerequisite will review their teacher education class rolls. Based on their experiences with, and observation of the students, faculty will identify reasons for the candidate not to continue in the program.
