MINUTES OF UNDERGRADUATE COUNCIL

Present: Jo Aden, Sherry Boyce, Brandy Cartmell, Victoria Seng 
for Frank Black, Doug Cook, Patricia Hewitt, Ed Knight, Charles 
Rayburn, Jeff Rogers, Alicia Welden, Ed Wheeler and Guests Lynn 
Alexander, Gary Brown, Aley El-Shazly, Roger Fisher, Dan Pigg, Andy

Absent: Jimmy Butler, Parker Cashdollar, Richard Chesteen

Wheeler called the meeting to order at 3:05 pm and minutes of the 
previous meeting were approved as distributed. The AY 99-00 Degree 
Appeals Committee report from School of Agriculture and Human 
Environment was distributed.

COLLEGE OF EDUCATION & BEHAVIORAL SCIENCES
PSYCHOLOGY

Motion to approve
1. Revision of requirements for major/minor for Psychology, (attachment page 1, page 2
2. Addition of PSYC 300 Intro to Clinical Psychology (3) NOTE: add 
to Impact Statement-No impact provided additional faculty position is 
approved. Sections for introductory courses may be larger. 
Department will address the situation in-house and there will be no 
negative impact on students.
3. Revision of title and course desc for PSYC 320 Learning and Cognition (4)
4. Addition of PSYC 355 Abnormal Child Psychology (3) NOTE: add to 
Impact Statement-No impact provided additional faculty position is 
approved. Sections for introductory courses may be larger. 
Department will address the situation in-house and there will be no 
negative impact on students.
5. Revision of title and course desc for PSYC 360 Drugs and Behavior (3)
Motion carried.

SOCIOLOGY, ANTHROPOLOGY, SOCIAL WORK, AND CRIMINAL JUSTICE
Motion to approve
1. Revision of requirements for major/minor for Criminal Justice 
NOTE: 1) in Impact Statement change (except by agreement) to (except 
by agreement between departments) and 2) change effective date to 
Fall 2001
2. Addition of CJ 220 Criminal Justice Ethics (3) NOTE: 1) in 
Impact Statement add-New faculty available and 2) change effective 
date to Fall 2001
3. Revision of prereq/coreq for CJ 460 (660) Senior Seminar in Crim 
Just (3) NOTE: change effective date to Fall 2001

COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING & NATURAL SCIENCES
Motion to approve
1. Revision of major in Health Science NOTE: Curriculum Committee 
of College of Engr and Natl Sci will have control and must approve 
each student request

1. Revision of requirements for major/minor for Biology

ENGINEERING
Motion to approve
1. Revision of prereq/coreq for ENGR 475 Automated Production 
Systems (4) NOTE: prereq will be controlled in-house

GEOLOGY, GEOGRAPHY, AND PHYSICS
Motion to approve
1. Deletion of PHYS 201-202 Physical Measurements (1,1)
2. Revision of credit hours and course desc for PHYS 211-212 College 
Physics (4,4)

COLLEGE OF HUMANITIES & FINE ARTS
ENGLISH

Motion to approve
1. Revision of course desc for ENGL 111-112 English Composition (3,3)
2. Addition of General Education Requirements for all students
After much discussion motion was amended to approve only

AMENDMENT TO MOTION: In second sentence of course desc change must to are expected to. (note: underlines are for clarity and not part of proposal)  Change last sentence to read Students must complete ENGL 111-112 within the first 60 hours with a grade of C or better or registration restrictions will be imposed.

MODERN FOREIGN LANGUAGE
Motion to approve
1. Addition of GERM 250 Germany Today: The German People and Their Culture (3)
Motion carried.

OTHER
1. Reorganization Issues Regarding Curriculum Changes and Student 
Special Requests proposal was withdrawn. Committee structure will 
remain unchanged; the approval channel will continue to be department 
curriculum committee, department chair, college curriculum committee, 
college dean, UG Council, and Faculty Senate. The UG Council will be 
responsible for making sure that any proposed change would not 
negatively impact other units offering the degree. Any revision to 
the BA or BS core requirements must include potential impact on other 
units offering the degree.
