Present: Chris Chalokwu, Mary Ellen Cowser for Margrethe Ahlschwede, James Fieser, Melba Figgins, K. Paul Jones, Stephanie Kolitsch, Earlene Moore, Dorotha Norton, Robert Self, Stan Sieber, Doug Sterrett, Susan Vickerstaff
Absent: Bill Austin, Kay Durden
1. The meeting began at 3:05.
2. Members discussed some concerns with sections 2.7.1 and 2.9.4 raised after the last meeting of the Personnel Policies Committee. In Section 2.7.1, Sterrett moved the addition of the following sentence to the second paragraph: "The VCAA will be responsible for final judgement if the dean and chair disagree on an unsatisfactory rating." to the second paragraph. Self seconded the motion, and the motion passed with opposition. Sieber moved to delete the reference to the cumulative performance review at the end of the third paragraph. Sterrett seconded the motion, and the motion passed.
In Section 2.9.4, the inclusion of the Remediation Committee in the titles of the sections referring to the Annual Performance and Planning Review and the Cumulative Performance Review was discussed. The members of the committee voted to keep the titles as they appear in the document. The committee suggested the inclusion of language to indicate that the Remediation Committees make their own judgement of a faculty member's performance. Jones and Kolitsch were asked to provide that language. Other editorial changes to this section were suggested and accepted.
3. The Personnel Policies Committee will submit Sections 2.7.1 and 2.9.4 to the full Senate for action at the next Senate meeting.
4. Kolitsch mentioned items to be discussed at the next meeting of the Personnel Policies Committee, including a discussion of voting by email.
5. The meeting adjourned at 4:30.
Respectfully Submitted,
Stephanie Kolitsch (for Chris Chalokwu)
