Financial Aid and Scholarships Office –  Grants

A grant is financial aid that does not require repayment. The following grant programs are available at UT Martin. Students who have received a Bachelor's degree are NOT eligible.

  • Pell Grants
The Federal Pell Grant is an award for undergraduates only with no prior bachelor or professional degree. The grants are based on a federal formula which measures the ability of the student and his/her family to meet educational expenses. To receive the Pell Grant complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). There are no application costs, and the grants do not have to be repaid. The maximum award for the 2010/2011 academic year is $5,550.

  • Federal Supplementary Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG)
The FSEOG (Federal Supplementary Educational Opportunity Grant) is for undergraduates with exceptional need, i.e. the students with the lowest EFC who are also Federal Pell Grant recipients. The average award at UTM is $800/per academic year because of limited federal funding. At UT Martin, FSEOG is usually reserved for high need and early applicants. Full-time students are given priority (A minimum of 12 credit hours per semester).

  • Tennessee Student Assistance Award
A Tennessee Student Assistant Award is a nonrepayable grant to assist undergraduate students in financing a postsecondary education. Any Tennessee resident who is enrolled or who has been accepted for admission as an undergraduate student by an eligible Tennessee college or university and can establish that he/she needs financial assistance in order to complete his/her education is automatically considered by completing the FAFSA. Assistance awards range from a minimum of $1,300 to a maximum of $2,000 per academic year. In no case, however, may an award be greater than the amount of tuition and mandatory fees. The number of students assisted is dependent upon the amount of funds appropriated annually by the Tennessee General Assembly.
