Financial Aid Resources

Monthly Financial Aid Planner

January:

  • Financial Aid Forms (FAFSA) are distributed to UT Martin's Office of Student Financial Assistance and high school guidance offices. Applicants cannot mail the FAFSA to the federal processor before January 1.
  • Research possible outside sources of scholarships listed in the scholarship research books in your local library.
  • Fill out the FAFSA using the previous year's tax returns.
  • Returning students will receive by mail a renewal application from the Department of Education.

February:

  • If you have not submitted the FAFSA, do so now. Don't delay! Recommended mailing deadline is February 15.
  • The FAFSA must be received at the federal processor by March 1 to be considered on-time and be considered for all types of campus-based funds (FWS, SEOG, Perkins Loan). Respond promptly to any requests for additional information from the Office of Financial Aid.
  • You will receive a Student Aid Report (SAR) from the federal processor 2-3 weeks after submitting the FAFSA. Check the SAR carefully for errors.

March:

  • Award letters are mailed to students.
  • Notify the Office of Student Financial Assistance of any scholarship you have been awarded. This information is important for finalizing your awards. You may receive several revised award letters as the Office of Student Financial Assistance is made aware of these changes.

June:

  • The Office of Student Financial Assistance will begin processing Federal Stafford (Student) Loans and Federal PLUS (Parent) loans.
  • First-term freshman are not able to receive their first Stafford Loan disbursement until 30 days after the first date of classes.
  • All new student Stafford Loan borrowers at UTM sign a master promissory note with their lender.

July:

  • Fees are assessed by the Office of Business Affairs and statements are mailed to students.

August:

  • Students must respond to the Business Affairs statement - even if financial aid covers all charges.
  • Drop/add at 100% during the first week of classes.
  • Enrollment status is locked in on Friday of the first week of classes and aid is adjusted accordingly.
