UT-Martin Bands Marching Band:Marching Band meets Monday through Thursday from 4:00 - 5:15 PM fall semester. This high energy ensemble performs at home football games, three local parades, and “in exhibition” at select high school competitions. We also host the Skyhawk Marching Band Invitational held the second Saturday in September.
Marching Band Camp is a pre-requisite to Marching Band and meets approximately one week before classes begin in the fall. Leave this week open in your calendar, we have it already planned for you. The marching band will learn the half-time show, pre-game show, and stands music during this week.
Wind Ensemble:Wind Ensemble meets Monday through Thursday from 4:00 - 5:15 PM fall and spring semesters. Wind Ensemble is an auditioned group that contains the best instrumentalists from across the campus. This ensemble performs the highest quality literature in the repertoire. This group grows out of the same time block as Marching Band (during fall) and begins meeting when the marching band has days off. This ensemble eventually takes over the same time block, starting with one rehearsal a week in September, and growing to three or four rehearsals a week (less marching band) in November. Auditions occur the first week of classes each semester. All are invited to audition.
Concert Band:Concert Band meets Monday and Wednesday nights from 6:00 - 7:30 PM spring semester. No audition is necessary for wind players. This ensemble contains a wide cross-section of talented university students and performs high quality standard literature.
Pep Band:Pep Band auditions occur in early November. This ensemble will rehearse selected evenings in November and perform at home basketball games.
Jazz Band:Jazz Band meets on Tuesday and Thursday nights from 6:00 - 7:30 PM both semesters. Auditions occur in early September. All are invited to audition. The Jazz Band Director is also our trumpet studio professor, Dr. Kurt Gorman and can be reached at 731-881-7404 and kgorman@utm.edu.
