About the Department of Music

The Department of Music at UT Martin includes 85 music majors pursuing undergraduate degrees in Music Performance, Music Education (instrumental or vocal), and Bachelor of Arts in Music. Students, led by 13 full-time faculty, 3 part-time faculty, and 4 staff members, are challenged artistically and academically in any of our nine major ensembles as well as a host of student and faculty chamber ensembles to develop their musical abilities and strive for performance excellence. Students enroll in private lessons, music history, music theory, aural skills, pedagogy, and general education courses in an effort to prepare them for the challenges and rewards of a successful career in music.

The majority of music majors concentrate on the degree of Music Education and UT Martin is proud to make a significant contribution to the education and artistic lives of young people in the state of Tennessee and beyond. Our graduates hold positions as music educators, professors, performers, and community leaders throughout the mid-south and the country as a whole. These graduates often credit their success to the close personal connection and attention they received from strong and concerned faculty at UT Martin coupled with a well-rounded and thorough curriculum geared to meeting the demands required of today's music professional.

This is an historic time to be involved with the UT Martin Department of Music.
