The UTM Dance Ensemble is
the Department of Visual and Theatre Arts performance group for
students in dance. The UTM Dance Ensemble is made up of a committed
and dedicated group of UTM Dance Education Majors, Dance Minors,
and Non-Majors alike, who strive to showcase their talents and
belief of dance as an art and educational discipline. The ensemble
performs in both Fall and Spring in various showcases and community
service projects. They offer a major public concert every spring
semester, which features student choreography, as well as faculty
and guest-artists.
Dance Ensemble performances feature a wide variety of dance
forms and styles. In addition, Dance Ensemble embraces their
history of collaborations with visual artists, poets, and musicians.
The UTM Dance Ensemble has performed at schools throughout West
Tennessee, and most recently presented an educational residency,
which included students teaching in-class movement activities
and a performance.
The Department of Visual & Theatre Arts offers Dance Ensemble
opportunities to take part in various national dance festivals
and conferences including, ACDFA (American College Dance Festival)
and TAD (Tennessee Association of Dance). These conferences offer
students opportunities to take classes with dance masters, in
addition to possibly showcasing their own work for review by
professional panelists.
