Kurt Gorman, D.M.A., joined the music faculty at the University of Tennessee at Martin in the fall of 2004, where he teaches studio trumpet and directs the jazz ensemble. Prior to his appointment at UTM, he served for two seasons as the Principal Trumpet of Orquesta Sinaloa de las Artes, a chamber orchestra in Culiacan, Mexico. Before that, he worked as a freelance trumpet player in the Dallas- Fort Worth area for several years.

Gorman currently performs with the Jackson Symphony and with Bravada, a chamber ensemble of UTM music faculty. His primary interest is chamber music. Currently, he is expanding and revising his doctoral dissertation, The Trumpet in Mixed Chamber Music of the Twentieth Century, for publication.

Gorman holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Chicago and graduate degrees in performance from the University of North Texas and the University of Missouri-Kansas City. He has studied privately with Keith Johnson, Keith Benjamin, Jeff Curnow, John Holt, and Guy Victor Bordo.
