Welcome Weekend 2016

Friday, August 19 to Sunday, August 21, 2016

There are 3 stages within the First Year Initiative Program:

The UT Martin First Year Initiative (FYI) is a unique program designed to help First Year Students with their transition to university life.

During SOAR, prospective First Year students meet with academic advisors and register for classes.

Additionally, students and parents receive information about various student services including academic support, housing, financial aid, and student involvement.

Friday August 19 - Sunday August 21

Welcome Weekend is designed to orient First Year students to their academic programs and campus life opportunities.

At the beginning of Welcome Weekend, each student is assigned to a group of students with similar academic interests. A faculty mentor and a peer counselor (PEP Leader) lead the group during Welcome Weekend and throughout the General Studies 101 class. It is during Welcome Weekend that students begin their transition into the UT Martin community.

When to report for Welcome Weekend:

Residential Students: Move-in begins at 6:00 AM on Friday August 19, 2016

All First Year Students: Check-in for Welcome Weekend will begin at 8:00 am on Friday August 19, 2016

Parents: Friday August 19, 2016: 3:00 PM Information Session; 5:00 PM Convocation; 6:00 PM Dinner

You can also view our Campus Map for directions.

The General Studies 101 class begins during Welcome Weekend and is a semester-long, two-credit hour class which focuses on the strategies and skills needed to achieve success in the collegiate environment.

The class is taught every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 12:00 PM to 12:50 PM by a faculty mentor and one or more PEP Leaders.
