First-Year Students will be able to move into the Residence Halls starting at 6:00 a.m. on Friday, August 19. This initial move-in period for first year students has been coined as “Move-In Mania!” There will be several UT Martin students on hand to assist you with your move in. Take advantage of their service and begin to experience the caring UT Martin spirit. Along with their strong backs, they can provide a wealth of campus information!
All first year students who have registered for Welcome Weekend and the First Year Initiative General Studies 101 class will need to officially check-in at the University Center Ballroom. At check-in first year students will receive their General Studies 101 assignment and classroom location, along with an opportunity to meet their Pep Leader.
Solution Central will be located in the University Center in Room 229. Advisors from the Student Success Center and The First Year Initiative staff will be available to assist students with class schedule changes, change of major forms, add or change General Studies 101 classes, locating PEP groups, and answering questions covering a host of academic and campus concerns. If you have a concern or a problem that needs attention, Solution Central will be the place to come.
All first-year students residing on campus are required to purchase a meal plan. Starting with the noon meal on Friday, August 19, your Sodexo meal plan will be activated and you will able to eat in the Dining Hall for the balance of the semester. Non-meal plan students, and the families and friends of our students are invited to eat in the Dining Hall. Lunch is priced at $5.00 and the evening meal at $7.00. Both meals are Welcome Weekend specials… Thank you Sodexo Dining Services!
All first-year students will be required to report to their assigned General Studies 101 classroom to meet their Faculty Mentor and PEP Leaders. Your PEP Leader will be with you throughout the duration of the fall semester and will guide and mentor you as you transition to campus life. During this first meeting, you will be given a brief overview of the Convocation Ceremony which you will attend later on in the afternoon and Welcome Weekend and General Studies 101 expectations.
Parents and guardians are encouraged to attend this informative session in the Watkins Auditorium located in the Boling University Center. University staff will be on hand to answer any last minute questions and will provide information on several campus events that will occur during the Fall Semester along with other opportunities for campus engagement. Also, parents will be given an overview of the Welcome Weekend Convocation Ceremony and commentary on its significance.
The Welcome Weekend Convocation Ceremony is an annual program that celebrates the value of the UT Martin educational experience and welcomes our new students into the UT Martin Family! Students and parents will be welcomed by university leadership; informed of our rich, campus traditions; and inspired by our faculty, alumni, and student leaders. Together, we will light “The Torch of Preparation,” then the Class of 2020 will pass through the “Commencement Arch.” The Convocation Ceremony will mark the beginning of the Class of 2020 magnificent journey into higher education that will lead to graduation! All parents, friends and family members are invited to attend the ceremony.
Capping off a first great day at UT Martin your PEP Leader will be inviting you to attend and participate in the First Annual Friday Night Flight. The evening will feature music and a variety of games and activities in a festive carnival type atmosphere. The event is sponsored by the Campus Ministries Association, the Office of Housing, the Office of Campus Recreation, and the Student Activities Council.
If per chance circumstances do not allow you check into your Residence Hall room on Friday, the Hall Staff will be ready to welcome you with open arms on Saturday. Be sure to get into your room as soon as possible then go to Solution Central in Room 229 in the University Center to get checked in with the First Year Initiative. From there the staff will unite you with your PEP Group… Your PEP Leader will assist you in getting caught up. You will be on your way!
During this meeting, your PEP Leader will spend quality time with you by engaging in ice breaker activities, team building activities, and by answering any questions you may have about your schedule, Greek life, student organizations, or the upcoming semester.

At this General Assembly students will be informed about personal safety policies and procedures and given insight into the campus judicial and student conduct process.

JUST IN TIME… At this General Assembly students will be informed about the various campus engagement opportunities available to them as they begin the Fall Semester. Representatives from the offices of Minority Affairs, Greeklife, Student Organizations, THE PACER, and the First Year Initiative will provide insight as to the most current opportunities for involvement. Also, student leaders from the Student Government Association and the Student Activities Council will report on the various programs that support their mission and purpose. GET INVOLVED!!!
The Office of Campus Recreation will host “The Recreation Rampage and Picnic” in which students will be able to participate in a series of games and activities to win prizes. A picnic style dinner will be served at the event. This is an exciting time to let loose, have fun, and most importantly… win free stuff! The Office of Campus Recreation… providing quality recreational programs that encompass sport, fitness and leisure activities.
Each residence hall will hold a mandatory meeting in which residential students will be able to meet their Resident Assistants and the Hall Director of their residence hall. At this time, students will be given important information regarding residence hall policies, conduct expectations, and involvement opportunities.
The Office of Housing will be sponsoring a potpourri of fun activities for all first year students… Your PEP Leader and your Resident Assistant will have more information about the Block Party.
