Move-In-Mania - Residence Hall Move-In Begins

First-Year Students will be able to move into the Residence Halls starting at 6:00 a.m. on Friday, August 25. This initial move-in period for first year students has been coined as “Move-In Mania!” There will be several UT Martin students on hand to assist you with your move-in. Take advantage of their service and begin to experience the caring UT Martin spirit. Along with their strong backs, they can provide a wealth of campus information!

First Year Initiative Check-In

All first year students who have registered for Welcome Weekend and the First Year Initiative General Studies 101 class will need to officially check-in at the University Center Ballroom. At check-in first year students will receive their General Studies 101 assignment and classroom location, along with an opportunity to meet their Pep Leader.

Solution Central

Solution Central will be located in the University Center in Room 229. Advisors from the Student Success Center and The First Year Initiative staff will be available to assist students with class schedule changes, change of major forms, add or change General Studies 101 classes, locating PEP groups, and answering questions covering a host of academic and campus concerns. If you have a concern or a problem that needs attention, Solution Central will be the place to come.

Lunch in the Dining Hall

All first-year students residing on campus are required to purchase a meal plan. Starting with the noon meal on Friday, August 25, your Sodexo meal plan will be activated and you will be able to eat in the Dining Hall for the balance of the semester. Non-meal plan students, and the families and friends of our students are invited to eat in the Dining Hall on August 25, for lunch and the evening meal.

General Studies 101 Class (Faculty Mentor and PEP Leaders)

All first-year students will be required to report to their assigned General Studies 101 classroom to meet their Faculty Mentor and PEP Leaders. Your PEP Leader will be with you throughout the duration of the fall semester and will guide and mentor you as you transition to campus life. During this first meeting, you will be given a brief overview of the Convocation Ceremony which you will attend later on in the afternoon along with the general expectations for Welcome Weekend and the General Studies 101 class.

Parents and Guardians Informational Session

Parents and guardians are encouraged to attend this informative session in the Watkins Auditorium located in the Boling University Center. University staff will be on hand to answer any last minute questions and will provide information on several campus events that will occur during the Fall Semester along with other opportunities for campus engagement. Also, parents will be given an overview of the Welcome Weekend Convocation Ceremony and commentary on its significance.

Convocation Ceremony

The Welcome Weekend Convocation Ceremony is an annual program that celebrates the value of the UT Martin educational experience and welcomes our new students into the UT Martin Family! Students and parents will be welcomed by university leadership; informed of our rich, campus traditions; and inspired by our faculty, alumni, and student leaders. Together, we will light “The Torch of Preparation,” then the Class of 2021 will pass through the “Commencement Arch.” The Convocation Ceremony will mark the beginning of the Class of 2021 magnificent journey into higher education that will lead to graduation! All parents, friends and family members are invited and encouraged to attend the ceremony.

Campus Entertainment "Friday Night Flights"

Capping off a first great day at UT Martin your PEP Leader will be inviting you to attend and participate in the Second Annual “Friday Night Flights” special event. The evening will feature music and a variety of games and activities in a festive carnival atmosphere. The event is sponsored by the Campus Ministries Association, the Office of Housing, the Office of Campus Recreation, and the Student Activities Council.

Late Check-in for Residence Halls/First Year Initiative

If per chance circumstances do not allow you check into your Residence Hall room on Friday, the Hall Staff will be ready to welcome you with open arms on Saturday. Be sure to get into your room as soon as possible then go to Solution Central in Room 229 in the University Center to get checked in with the First Year Initiative. From there the staff will unite you with your PEP Group… Your PEP Leader will assist you in getting caught up. You will be on your way!

During this meeting, your PEP Leader will spend quality time with you by engaging in ice breaker activities, and by answering any questions you may have about your schedule and campus engagement opportunities.

The Recreation Rampage and Picnic

The Office of Campus Recreation will host “The Recreation Rampage and Picnic” in which students will be able to participate in a series of games and activities to win prizes. A picnic style dinner will be served at the event. This is an exciting time to let loose, have fun, and most importantly… win free stuff! The Office of Campus Recreation provides quality recreational programs that encompass sport, fitness and leisure activities.

Residence Hall Floor Meetings

Each residence hall will hold a mandatory meeting in which residential students will be able to meet their Resident Assistants and the Hall Director of their residence hall. At this time, students will be given important information regarding residence hall policies, conduct expectations, and involvement opportunities.

In preparation for the first day of classes, students will receive academic advice and will be able to locate their classes.

“Meet Your Success Counselor”

At this session first year students will have the opportunity to meet their Success Counselor. The Success Counseling Program has been specifically developed for incoming first year students and promotes academic literacy, advocacy and personal development. Success Counselors work with the departmental academic advisors to empower students to embrace their full potential and obtain their degree. Each first year student is assigned to their Success Counselor based on their chosen major. The student will then meet with their Success Counselor at least two times during the semester, once at the beginning of the semester and again after mid-term grades are posted. These meetings will allow the student and counselor to work together to solve any issues the student may be having, to improve utilization of campus resources and to help with the student’s transition from high school to a college level curriculum.

General Assembly - Bill Cordes, Speaker

Bill Cordes is a professional speaker who offers a dynamic academic presentation entitled “YOGOWYPI… You Only Get Out What You Put In.” Bill works with colleges throughout the country supporting them in creating environments that foster positive relationships, building community and giving students the tools to get the most out of their collegiate experience. This presentation always gets students excited and ready for the first day of classes!

Student Organization and City of Martin Merchant Fair

This is an opportunity for students to get connected with businesses in Martin and with different student organizations on campus. Participating merchants offer prize giveaways, free merchandise, coupons, and free samples. Come on out to this high energy event and explore the many opportunities UT Martin and the City of Martin have to offer!
