New Minor in Canadian Studies

 

 

Learn all about Canada, our friendly and fascinating neighbor to the north...

 

• which is our country's largest trading partner
• which prides itself on gun control and health care for all
• which speaks two official languages
• which calls its one and two-dollar coins "loonies" and "toonies"
• which prefers hockey and curling to baseball and football

 

Earn a minor which enhances your career opportunities in the humanities, sciences, business, and agriculture!

 

Take advantage of travel opportunities in Canada and study at Canadian partner institutions!

 

Requirements for a Canadian studies minor:

 

(a) 1 Foundation Course on Canada

(b) 1 Course in Canadian Geography, History, or Political Science
3
(c) 1 Course in Canadian Literature or Culture/Civilization
3
(d) 3 Electives from two approved fields, one of which must not have been studied in (b) or (c) (may include 2 advanced French language classes at the 300/400 level)

• Students will complete 6 hours of the above requirements in Canada (through study at University of Quebec at Chicoutimi, University of New Brunswick at St. John, or another approved Canadian institution, a travel-study program, or an international internship). Students will spend at least one month in Canada.

 

• As an additional requirement, students will take three semesters of French language at the college level or demonstrate equivalent proficiency (0-12 credits).

 

• As students complete the CS Minor, they must submit a portfolio to their faculty advisor that includes components that are reflective along with smaple assignmnets and undergo an Exit Interview.

 

• The Minor in Canadian Studies can also serve as a Concentration in the International Studies minor.
