Elmer Vaughan

 

Vaughn was captain of the undefeated 1936 UT Martin football team. He was named most valuable player in the Mississippi Valley Conference that season. He continued his playing career at Memphis State, leading the 1938 Tiger team to an undefeated season.

 

During World War II he was a torpedo bomber pilot in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the Naval Reserve for 22 years and retired as a captain.
