Nunamaker is probably UT Martin's most successful walk-on athlete. He walked on in 1965 and was named first-team Kodak All-American by the American Football Coaches' Association in 1968 and appeared as a starter in four post-season all-star football games. The defensive tackle was a member of the 1967 UT Martin Tangerine Bowl team and played professionally for the Buffalo Bills, eventually becoming a starter, after being picked by the Bills in the third round of the National Football League draft.
Nunamaker, who played at UT Martin from 1965 to 1968, was credited with 90 unassisted tackles, 30 assisted tackles, and 28 blocked passes as a senior. He coached high school teams to bowl appearances three times as a head coach from 1973 to 1982 with stops at Halls High, McNairy High, and Bruceton Central High.
