Pat Head Summitt

 

Summitt still holds numerous UT Martin records from her 1970-74 playing career. At UT Martin she was a member of the school's most successful basketball team, the 1972-73 team which compiled a 22-3 record.

 

Summitt, from Ashland City, represented UT Martin as a member and co-captain of the United States Women's Olympics Basketball Team that won a silver medal in the 1976 Olympics held in Montreal. She has competed as a player and coach in numerous international tournaments and served as coach of the 1984 United States Women's Olympics Basketball Teams. From 1977 to 1980 she compiled a 30-2 record as coach of United States teams involved in international competition.

 

Recognized as one of the most outstanding women's college coaches, Summitt has served as head women's basketball coach at The University of Tennessee since college graduation.
