| Norman Lillegard is professor of philosophy and coordinator of philosophy and religious studies at the University of Tennessee-Martin. He received BA and MA degrees from the University of Minnesota, an M.Div. from Luther Seminary, St. Paul,MN, and the PhD from the University of Nebraska (1981). He has taught at Spelman College, Atlanta, The University of Nebraska, The University of Nebraska – Omaha, and Bellevue College. He is the co-author of A Historical Introduction to Philosophy (Oxford University Press, 2003) and Philosophical Questions (Oxford University Press, 2005) and the author of On Epicurus (Wadsworth, 2002) and of journal articles, book chapters, reviews and encyclopedia articles on the philosophy of language, philosophy of religion, ethics, Wittgenstein, Kierkegaard, and aesthetics. He has received numerous grants, including grants from the American Scandinavian Foundation and the Pew Charitable Trusts, and has been an invited presenter at conferences and symposia in England, Latvia, Sweden, and Poland as well as in the USA. His essays have been translated into four languages and have been the topic of discussion in journal symposia. He has been on the executive board of the Kierkegaard Society USA, as representative to the APA (’98-‘2002) and president (2004-2006). He has been twice named an Outstanding Educator at UTM and has been the College of Humanities and Fine Arts nominee for the Cunningham Teacher/Scholar award. His wife Diane is a nurse and insurance examiner, his daughter Kirsten is a college English instructor, son Hans is a writer, daughter Sigrid graduates from high school in ’07. |
