Teaching History / Social Studies

Careers in education and the academe therefore are not the only venue for your degree in history. But in this field too, all kinds of possibilities are open to you. You may earn an M.S. in Education with a History specialty and go into administration, curriculum design, counseling, or teaching. You may do the same with an Ed.D., which opens the door to administrative positions in higher education. The most traditional path is that of university professor. There too, you have several steps. With 18 hours in graduate History courses, you can teach survey courses at junior colleges. Teaching survey courses at a 4-year college or university requires the M.A. in History. For a full-time position, the Ph.D. in History and a solid list of publications is required.
