UTM Housing and Residence Life Fall 2020 SARS CoV 2 Updates

  • Staggered Move-In Process
    • All students will be scheduled for a move-in date between July 27- August 13 and will be required to leave campus after completing their move-in, unless approved to remain on campus.
    • All students can return to campus housing, starting at 8:00 am on Thursday, August 13.
    • A centralized check-in location for all residents will be located at the Ellington Hall front lawn.
    • Temperatures and face coverings will be checked for all students and guests upon arrival for check-in.
    • To check-in, all students must be immunization compliant and completed their SARS CoV 2 Pandemic Contract Addendum and Acknowledgement.
    • Students will be limited to three guests for their move-in date.
  • Isolation spaces have been set aside for students requiring self-isolation due to testing positive for COVID-19.
  • Housing will require the wearing of face-coverings inside all public areas of the residence halls.
  • Restrictive Visitation Policy
    • No external visitors
    • Visitation of registered UTM students only
    • Limited to one guest between the hours of noon-midnight
    • No overnight guests
    • Permission must be received from roommates/suitemates before guest arrival when they will be in a shared space.
    • This will be enforced through the standard visitation violation procedures involving the removal of guests, documentation, and referral to Hall Director or Student Conduct.
  • Programming and Events
    • Housing is canceling all large-scale programming/events and creating programs that can be implemented virtually, with small group social distancing, or a hybrid of both.
    • All in-person events will require students to RSVP before the event in Runway.
    • Temperature and face-covering checks will be conducted at all in-person event check-ins.
    • Portable containers of hand sanitizer will be made readily available free of charge for all in-person events.
  • Community areas inside the halls will be modified or closed to promote social distancing standards. This may impact lobbies, study areas, Living Learning Community spaces, and computer labs.
  • Housing facilities staff will be implementing enhanced public area cleanings and disinfection.
  • Custodial services of resident bathrooms will be temporarily suspended this academic year to reduce resident and staff contact. Students will be expected to maintain sanitary conditions.
  • All residents will be required to return home for the winter break. All residence halls will be closed after the completion of online finals.
  • All hall lobby entrances will be locked. Residents will use exterior stairwell swipe entrances to enter the building and exit through the lobby entrance.
  • Hand sanitizer stations will be widely available in all public areas of the halls.
  • With exceptions made for scheduled move-in and move-out times, access to the halls will be restricted to registered students and staff only.
