How Many International Students Are There?

This is a question that prospective students always ask. For the answer we turned to the Director of International Programs, Sandra Baker, pictured above on the far left. She provided these statistics for Fall 2004...

In TIEP there were 58 international students.

Their countries of origin were Colombia, Japan, India, Korea, Senegal, Taiwan, Thailand, and Turkey.

In regular curriculum academic programs there were 167 international students.

The 28 countries of origin were: Albania, Brazil, Canada, China, Congo, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Iran, Ireland, Jamaica, Japan, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Korea, Kuwait, Lebanon, Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa, Russia, Senegal, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, the United Kingdom, and Venezuela.

There are 10 active sister university/college/institutional relationships in the Far East. Five of these relationships are with institutions in Japan, 3 in Korea, and 2 in China.

The Tennessee Intensive Language Program (TIEP) began its 30th year in the fall of 2004.

NEW!! TWO SUMMER TERMS

To celebrate our 30th year TIEP has begun a new calendar with six terms per year making it easier for students to arrive at nearly any time during the year. This new flexibility serves students whose work or school schedules may not match the school year in the United States. Including mid-term entry, the new calendar makes it possible for a student to arrive on any one of twelve airport pick-up dates during the year. Take a look at the new calendar:

Our Students Have What it Takes!

We recently heard from Usaku Ohshima. He now works in Taiwan for the company Canon where he uses both English and Japanese, but he is quickly learning Mandarin Chinese. He says he is working very hard, but he still seems to have some time to travel. He recently visited Taipei and Okinawa. He sent us a few photos of Taipei. Thank you for remembering us Usaku! We really enjoy hearing news from our former students.

We want to hear from YOU! Please send us your latest news, photos, thoughts, etc. We do remember our alumni and want to keep in touch.
