Microsoft ends support for Windows XP in April

Microsoft is ending its support for Windows XP on April 8, 2014. After this date, Microsoft will no longer be releasing any automatic updates for this operating system, which includes security updates, software patches, and driver updates. Without these crucial updates, Windows XP will become increasingly vulnerable to security threats. With these circumstances in mind, the UTM ITS department has also decided to end support for Windows XP in order to maintain the level of security necessary to protect the campus. If your department has any older PCs running Windows XP, please contact the UTM Helpdesk for assistance with determining whether or not your systems have the capabilities of running a newer version of Windows. If your computer can be upgraded to a newer version of Windows, an operating system upgrade service call will be created and placed with the ITS Technology Support Services area. They will then contact you to set up a date and time to perform the upgrade. If your computer hardware is too antiquated to run a newer version of Windows, you will need to upgrade it to a newer system. If you are currently running a virtual installation of Windows XP, it will also need to be upgraded. If you are unsure as to the version of Windows that you currently have, please click here and follow the directions to determine whether or not you are running Windows XP. If you are still unable to determine whether or not you have Windows XP installed, please contact the Helpdesk for further assistance. After April 8, 2014, computers running Windows XP will no longer be allowed to register on our network.

Computer Labs

The Office of Information Technology Services maintains several computer labs across campus. You must have a valid UT Martin staff or student ID card to gain access to the lab. Once inside, you must have a valid username and password login to gain access to the campus network.
