Wil Hammond - Review #5
Web
Site: http://www.acus.org/
1.
What is the scope of the site.
1. This site contains not only the mission statement for the Atlantic
Council of the United States; it contains its history and future goals, along with sponsors of the web site and Council. Although there are no links
off of the web site itself, there is a lot of good information on the site itself that is very well organized. The layout is basic in the sense that it
only really consists of two levels of navigation, which does make it very easy to navigate around for the novice user.
2.
Who are the sites authors? (person, institution)
2. The web site does not tell us the author of the site, but does tell us
the name of each member of the Board of Directors, the site tells us it a “non partisan network of leaders who are convinced of the pivotal importance
of effective U.S. foreign policy and the cohesion of U.S. international relationships”.
3.
What category does the site fit in (what type of information are you getting
from that site)?
3. I would say this is a website that describes the organization for which
it represents, give only little factual information or recourses to work with
4.
What is its focus: American, non-Western, etc., time-period or general
4. The focus of this site is mainly American, but focus on the foreign
policy issues dealing with America.
5.
Rate the information contained in the site:
5. There are no links to support the information given within the site. The
information is presented in a very basic format. The most current thing I found on the site dated Jan. 2001. There is nothing on the site to support
their points and issues. There are no listed criteria for including information on the site. The site did not appear to be to well reaserched I
found no other sources on this topic.
6.
Rate the site:
6. I do believe that this site is stable due to the corporate backing from
many major corporations. The information on the site did not appear to be too old but could use some updating. This site lists no awards this has
received.
7.
How does this site relate to the course you are currently taking? How
helpful/not helpful is it? Would you recommend it to other students?
7. This site only relates to European affairs in a foreign policy for the
U.S. prospective. I would only recommend it if you researching U.S. foreign policy.
8.
Write a brief narrative summary of the site. What courses and kinds of
research would this site be most useful for?
8. This site is a very basic site to navigate around and contains some
information about U.S. foreign policy in the Atlantic region of the world, including Europe. The lack of links to other sites dealing with the same
topic makes this site not as useful as it could be, but does provide information about itself and how to become involved in the organization.
About the only thing this site would be useful for is a little information on foreign policy and possible employment within that field.
