Parent Information

It is always nice to receive mail from home! We realize how important mail is for our students, your son/daughter. We hope the information below will assist in ensuring your child receives his/her mail in the most expeditious manner possible. The UTM Mail Services is located on the first floor of the Boling University Center, Room 107.

Mailing Addresses:

The address for the Dorms, Browning, Ellington & Cooper Halls must include the Dormitory name (or appropriate Dorm code) and room number, i.e.:
"Your name"
"Your Dorm & Room #"
11 Wayne Fisher Dr.
Martin, TN 38238

Example:
John Doe
Browning H131R
11 Wayne Fisher Dr.
Martin, TN 38238

The address for University Village (Phase 1 and 2) must include your UTM Box number, i.e.:
"Your name"
"Your UTM Box #"
11 Wayne Fisher Dr.
Martin, TN 38238

Example:
John Doe
UTM Box 1234
11 Wayne Fisher Dr.
Martin, TN 38238

When shipping a package and a street address is required (usually when shipping FedEx or UPS), regardless of which dorm you may reside in, you should use the following street address, which is the street address of the UTM University Center where ALL student packages are delivered:

"Your given name"
"Appropriate Dorm & Room or UTM Box #"
11 Wayne Fisher Dr.
Martin, TN 38238

Here are the actual street addresses for GPS purposes ONLY
(Mail is NOT delivered to these addresses):

  • Browning Hall is:  315 Hannings Lane
  • Ellington Hall is:  301 Hannings Lane
  • Cooper Hall is:  206 Hurt Street
  • University Village Phase I: 201 Hannings Lane
  • University Village Phase II: 209 Hannings Lane

Zip Codes:

The University has its own zip code (38238). The town of Martin utilizes the zip code 38237. University Courts, Grove Apartments, and Martin Place utilize the zip code 38237 as the Martin Post Office delivers to them.

Official Names:

Please be aware that rosters used for mail purposes have official names only. Nicknames and use of middle names etc. can be confusing to mail sorters. If your son/daughter prefers a name other than their official name, they should inform their dormitory mail clerk or the UTM Mail Services located in the University Center. If a letter comes in for a Sam Jones in Browning Hall 111, but our records show George Jones in that room, we are not aware "Sam" is either his nickname or middle name or maybe some other student entirely. Therefore, it will take extra time to research and try to determine where the letter is to be delivered or it is returned to sender for insufficient address.

Tracking a Letter or a Package:

Only the use of registered, insured, certified/return receipt or delivery confirmation will allow a letter or package to be traced. Letters/packages with postage only cannot be traced.

Mailboxes:

Each student is given a mail box in their respective dormitories. Students living in University Village are assigned a mail box in the University Center. The mail is picked-up daily and sorted to each dormitory mail box by 2 P.M. If a package will not fit into a standard PO Box, or it requires a student's signature, it is held at the UTM Mail Services and an email is sent to the student's UTM email account.  If after 5 days the package has not been picked-up a second email is sent to the student.  After 5 additional days a third and final email is sent informing the student that their package is being returned to sender if it is not picked-up immediately.  We do not have the facilities to hold package indefinitely.

Special Handling Services:

Please be aware that the UTM Mail Services only works on days the campus is open for official business. We do NOT work on Saturdays, Sundays or holidays. Overnight, Express Mail and the like, will be available for delivery/pick-up the next business day.

End of Semester:

Approximately six weeks before your son/daughter leaves at the end of the semester, he/she should notify all magazines, CD clubs, newspapers, etc. of their impending change of address so they may direct their mail to their new address without their missing any issues or important documents. Most companies now have e-mail addresses to which you can submit change of address notices or Internet access for the same purpose. See more information at Change of Address.

The UTM Mail Services is also available to purchase stamps, mail letters, and other postal services. Our hours of operation are 8 A.M. - 4:45 P. M. Monday through Friday to pick-up packages.  8:00 A.M. to 4:45 P.M. to purchase any other postal service.
