Majors and Minors

Neglect of mathematics works injury to all knowledge, since he who is ignorant of it cannot know the other sciences or the things of this world.
Roger Bacon, famous non-mathematician

Mathematics is truly a universal language, written and spoken in some form in all cultures. Its structure is much less invented than discovered; often the same result is found by different individuals working in different places and different times. A major in mathematics can be the beginning of a lifelong inquiry into the complexities of this universe, whether they are pursued as physical, logical or aesthetic.
In the College of Engineering and Natural Sciences, the Department of Mathematics and Statistics offers majors in mathematics for both the Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees. Minors are offered in both mathematics and statistics.
