Gloria Baxter is a professor in the Department of Theatre and Dance at The University of Memphis. She specializes in narrative theatre. Baxter holds a master's degree in performance studies from Northwestern University. Recognition for her work in script adaptation and stage direction includes a first place award at the Edinburgh International Theatre Festival and featured presentations of her work in New York and Paris. She has toured as an invited guest lecturer in theatre throughout France and was guest professor in residence at both The University of Paris and The University of Burgundy. Most recently, her work in script adaptation for narrative theatre was honored by her selection in national competition as The Thurber House Playwright in Residence in Columbus, Ohio. Among Baxter's adaptations for the stage are stories by Eudora Welty and William Faulkner. Her adaptation of George Orwell's Animal Farm will be performed November 4-7 by UT Martin's Vanguard Theatre.
