Program Requirements

Once accepted into the Call Me MiSTER® program, students are expected to adhere to the following expectations:

  • Major in either Early Childhood Education, Special Education or Middle Grades Education
  • Maintain a minimum 2.75 GPA until graduation
  • Maintain full-time enrollment at UT Martin
  • Attend all Call Me MiSTER®-related activities and meet regularly with the director to discuss progress
  • Maintain frequent interaction/involvement with their respective Department of Educational Studies cohorts and fulfill all associated requirements
  • Reside on campus within the residence halls as part of the Call Me MiSTER® Living Learning Community

Each MiSTER is expected to complete his program of study, obtain a teacher certification and assume a teaching position in a Tennessee public school. The MiSTER scholar will teach at least one year for each year of financial support received from the Call Me MiSTER® program.

Student Rights and Responsibilities

The “Call Me MiSTER®” Scholar must:

Academics

  1. Major in Elementary, Early Childhood Education or K-12 certification area
  2. Maintain a minimum of 2.75 GPA during the first 60 hours
  3. Be enrolled for at least 16 hours each semester
  4. Adhere to attendance policies
  5. Satisfy all requirements for admission to teach education program by the second semester of junior year
  6. Reside in prescribed CMM Living community for duration of undergraduate matriculation

Program

  1. Teach one year in a elementary or middle school for each year funds were received for Call Me MiSTER®
  2. Reside in prescribed CMM Living Learning Community for duration of undergraduate matriculation and do not engage in outside employment that will impair effectiveness in meeting academic and project requirements
    *Appeal must be made directly to campus site coordinators
  3. Attend all scheduled Call Me MiSTER® seminars and activities (Community Events – School Visits)
  4. Adhere to the grievance policies of the campus while enroll at UTM
  5. Conduct self in a manner that exemplifies value of a positive role model and mentor
  6. Develop a plan of action with the Site Coordinator to assist in academic success

*Retention in Call Me MiSTER® Scholar is dependent upon both academic performance and consistent participation in schedule activities, mandatory events and outreach initiatives.

Consequences

In the event that a Call Me MiSTER® fails to comply with the preceding stipulation, the following prerogatives will be exercised:

  • Placement on probation for a term
  • Adhere to prescriptive, individual academic assistance plan
  • Loss of all or partial CMM financial assistance; participation in CMM events and initiatives at Site Coordinator's discretion
  • Dismissal from Call Me MiSTER®
