Percussion & Aural Skills
Percussionist Chelsea Tinsler Jones has a wide variety of musical interests, having studied classical percussion, contemporary and chamber music, steel drums, Brazilian percussion, jazz vibraphone, drum-set, Middle Eastern frame drumming, and West African percussion. An active chamber and freelance musician, she is the percussionist and ensemble manager of Khemia Ensemble and co-founder of Steelworks Steel Band and percussion duo Chain Tones. She has appeared as a soloist with the University of Michigan Symphony Band and Percussion Ensemble, Greater Hartford Youth Wind Ensemble, and the Hartt Contemporary Players. In 2016, Chelsea took second place in the Black Swamp Solo Percussion Competition. She is also a section player in the Paducah Symphony.
Chelsea holds an MM in percussion performance and chamber music from the University of Michigan and a BM in percussion performance and music education from the Hartt School. She previously taught full-time as an instrumental music teacher in the Ann Arbor Public Schools.
Chelsea is currently a Lecturer of Music and the Events & Programs Coordinator for the music department at the University of Tennessee at Martin.
