Department of Music
Bonnie Lee Huffman Hernon received a B.M.E. from Murray State University, a M.M. from the University of Miami and did work toward a doctorate in music at North Texas State University. She attended North Texas on a teaching fellowship in trumpet and theory, studying trumpet with John Haynie and theory with Robert Ottman.
Professional playing experience includes the Miami Symphony Orchestra, Hollywood Symphony, Women’s Symphony of Miami and the Light Opera of Miami. She played principal trumpet with the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra and the Owensboro Symphony Orchestra. She has also played trumpet in Jackson Symphony, the Paducah Symphony and the Dyersburg Community Orchestra.
Teaching experience includes teaching band, chorus and classroom music in the public schools in Fulton, Kentucky, and Daviess County Jr. High in Owensboro, Kentucky, Westview High School in Martin, Tennessee and the Obion County Schools in Tennessee. She has also taught at Brescia College in Owensboro, Kentucky and the University of Tennessee at Martin and is the Adjunct Trumpet Instructor at Dyersburg State Community College. |
