Dr. Johnathan Vest joined the faculty at UT Martin in the fall of 2010 as the Coordinator of Music Education. His primary responsibilities include the training and supervision of student teachers in music, as well as teaching class piano.
Dr. Vest earned the Bachelor of Music Education from Harding University, a Master of Arts in Music from Middle Tennessee State University, and a doctorate in music education from the University of Alabama. He also holds a Level III Orff-Schulwerk Certification.
He taught public school music in the Nashville, TN area for 12 years. During his time in Nashville, he served on numerous boards and committees, most recently on the Tennessee State Music Standards Revision Committee. He also served as a clinician for Middle Tennessee Vocal Association elementary and middle school mass choirs, and as a presenter at Orff-Schulwerk workshops in Tennessee. Most recently, he presented "Creative Teaching in the Inner City" at the 2009 American Orff-Schulwerk Association National Conference in Milwaukee, WI.
He is a member of the Music Educators National Conference, the Tennessee Music Educators Association, and the American Orff-Schulwerk Association.
