The Faculty Brass Quintet is a chamber ensemble comprised of Kurt Gorman and John Oelrich, trumpets, Jessie Thoman, horn, Joseph Frye, trombone, and Bill Waterman, tuba. Performances at on- and off-campus venues provide a professional-quality musical experience for our students and members of the surrounding community. The ensemble performs a wide variety of music ranging from early music to jazz, and often includes performances of new works for brass. The members of the quintet also serve as mentors and coaches for student brass quintets and brass chamber groups, and often share the stage with them in performances across the region.
The quintet has performed as featured artists at the Sumner County Honor Band and have given performances and masterclasses on a wide range of brass-related topics at numerous schools in the region. The quintet regularly visits high schools throughout Tennessee and Kentucky, sharing their passion with students and directors as they strive to cultivate high levels of brass pedagogy and performance.
