Percussion Awards/Scholarships

Parsons Center

We have three named percussion awards and one scholarship:

The Jeremy Devault Percussion Service Award - $500

Presented to a music major specializing in percussion. The recipient selected has demonstrated academic excellence, contributed to outstanding service and dedication to the UTM percussion studio. The award is funded by Beth Devault in memory of her son, Jeremy Devault. Jeremy was a UTM music education major specializing in percussion who lived each day with a mission of service and devotion to his peers and profession.

The Nancy Mathesen Percussion Award - $500

Presented to the most outstanding first year percussionist majoring in music. Qualities such as academic excellence, practice ethic, leadership, and fraternity are all taken into consideration. Nancy Mathesen was the first percussion teacher at UT Martin and retired after 38 years of service. David Coffey, Julie Hill, and Ed Sargent fund this award as a tribute to her legacy.

The CT Hill Award - $500

Presented to a music major specializing in percussion that has demonstrated academic excellence (3.0 minimum). The recipient selected has consistently demonstrated a positive attitude in all things and is committed to exemplary community service within the UTM percussion studio, music department, campus, and greater West TN community. Family and friends of CT Hill fund this award in memory of CT's incredible spirit, love of life, and his charitable heart.

The Andrew Hart Music Leadership Scholarship - $600

Presented to a senior percussionist majoring in music that has demonstrated academic excellence (3.0 minimum). The recipient has consistently demonstrated leadership within the UTM percussion studio, music department, campus, and greater West TN community. The recipient is the kind of student that takes tremendous pride in UTM and will be a strong alumnus and spokesperson for our university.

This award is funded by Andrew Hart, an alumnus of UT Martin, who wanted to honor students studying under Dr. Julie Hill. Dr. Hill’s passion for music, her students, and UTM is the reason so many alumni are proud of this university and its music programs.
