Physical Plant Operations - Recycling
Open Daily Mon. thru Fri. 7am-6pm Sat. & Sun. 7am-3:30pm
The First Years The recycling operation started in 1989 by students in an agricultural class. The University sanctioned club, Project Recycle, gained national recognition in 1994 by winning a first-place award in "The Pledge and a Promise" competition. The $12,000 monetary award was used to construct a campus-recycling center. UTM Recycles! received an Award of Excellence in 2009 from TDOT. Dennis Kosta, Custodial Manager, leads in this environmental operation.
New Facility The New Recycling Center takes donations of the following items: paper and cardboard, aluminum cans, glass bottles, plastics, steel cans and other scrap metal, eye glasses, used clothing in good shape, cell phones, rechargeable batteries, ink cartridges, and any electronic appliances except televisions. Partners and sponsors of UTM Recycles! include the Institute for Civic Engagement, the UTM College of Humanities and Fine Arts, the UTM Physical Plant, Sodexo, and UTM student organizations including the Agronomy Club, Psi-Chi, Tri-Beta, and Student Affiliates of the American Chemical Society. |
