Health Sciences Pre-Professional Coordinator
Kristina is originally from Roscoe, IL, a small, rural town very similar to Martin, on the border of Illinois and Wisconsin and about 90 miles from Chicago. She holds a B.A. in Psychology and English from Augustana College in Rock Island, IL, and an M.S. in Recreation and Park Administration with a concentration in Therapeutic Recreation from Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond. Over the years Kristina has worked with severely persistently mentally ill adults as a Mental Health Associate in a residential facility and as a recreation therapist at Eastern State Hospital in Lexington, KY. She has also served as the administrative assistant to the chief of nephrology at Northwestern Medical Faculty Foundation in Chicago.
In 2008 Kristina’s husband, Dr. Kevin Pitz, became a faculty member in the UT Martin Department of Biological Sciences, and Kristina joined the university family as a grant writer for the College of Agriculture and Applied Sciences. A year later, the couple welcomed their first son, Alex. Then, in 2010, Kristina moved to the Student Success Center as an undeclared academic advisor and career counselor. After welcoming their second son, Jack, Kristina moved to the College of Engineering and Natural Sciences as the Health Sciences Pre-Professional Program Coordinator.
In her spare time Kristina loves to read and play with her children. She is an active member of the Martin Area Toastmasters and is currently serving as sergeant-at-arms and aims to earn additional designations in the organization.
