Health Sciences Pre-Professional Plans - Pre-Physician Assistant

 

Are health care professionals licensed to practice medicine with physician supervision. PA's conduct physical exams, diagnose and treat illnesses, order and interpret tests, counsel on preventive health care, assist in surgery, and in virtually all states can write prescriptions.

 

Pre-Physician Assistant students major in Biology, with an Organismal concentration, Chemistry, or other degree program. The student must have an earned four year degree to apply to the Physicians Assistant program at Bethel College in McKenzie , TN.

 

The US Department of Labor Occupational Outlook Handbook projects:

Employment is expected to grow much faster than other occupations through 2012 due to expansion of the health services industry, cost containment, and elderly population growth.

Required courses may change depending on major.

 

Electives: Fourteen additional hours selected from courses offered by the Department of Biological Sciences. Four hours of 200 level courses may be used to satisfy the elective requirement, provided that no 200 level course is selected to satisfy the Vertebrate Zoology requirement. MBIO 251 may not be used for elective credit if MBIO 310 is used to satisfy the Cell Biology or Microbiology requirement.

 

*Students must also meet standard general education requirements for a Bachelor of Science degree (see UT Martin catalog, p. 76-77).
