Greg Reeds

I have been teaching at Canisius College in Buffalo N.Y. for 28 years (mostly face to face but now online also). I arrived here from Nova Scotia, Canada where I taught courses in Sport Psychology and coached the Men's Soccer Team at Acadia University. I also served as the Men's Soccer coach, here at Canisius College from 1990 to 1998. We compete in the MAAC at the NCAA Division I level. I also served as the Western NY Olympic Development Coach for the U17 boys. Since stepping down as our Men's Soccer Coach, I served as our Department Chair and Director of the Graduate Programs for 11 years. My 14 years as a Head Coach has given me many experiences and has formed the basis for much of what I teach in my courses in Sport Psychology and Sport Management.

I hold two undergraduate degrees; one as a major in Physical Education (BPE) with a minor in Psychology and Sociology and one in Education (B Ed). I am a certified teacher of Physical Education and Health and high school psychology (Individual in Society/Global Studies). I am certified as a coaching educator (CCE) in Canada (NCCP), in NY State (BOCES) and with ASEP in the United States.

My graduate training led to a Master's degree in Sport Psychology and a Doctorate in Exercise Science with a specialization in Sport Psychology. I received my first opportunity to work as a Sport Psychologist with elite athletes as I served on the team to train Canada's Olympic Baseball team which competed in the Los Angeles Olympics in 1984. I have since served as a consultant and guest clinician with teams in the NHL and AHL. I have worked with young golfers in the AJGA, and have helped develop a curriculum to teach about disordered eating.

As a competitive athlete I played four years of soccer in University: three at McMaster University in Hamilton and one at the University of Toronto. I was as a member of the Guelph Oaks Soccer Club in the Southern Ontario Soccer League (SOSL) and played for the Hamilton Sparta Soccer Club in The Ontario Inter-City Soccer League (OICSL). As a grad student here in Buffalo I played for the Buffalo Soccer Club in the Buffalo and District Men’s Premier Division. From a management perspective I served as the assistant General Manager for the Hamilton Steelers Soccer Club in the Canadian Professional Soccer League. I worked in the area of marketing and promotion and coordinated the team’s summer youth camps.

Most recently, I am coaching my son’s Premier Travel Soccer Team. It is a challenge coaching your own child. He now calls me coach, not Dad. The boys are 17 and they competed in the State Cup aiming to earn a berth in the National Championship Series. I have also coached my 16 year old daughter on her school team. I serve on the Board of Directors, on the Athletic Advisory Committee and work as the volunteer assistant to the Director of Athletics.
