Cunningham Outstanding Teacher/Scholar and Coffey Outstanding Teaching Award Nomination Information

The Cunningham Outstanding Teacher/Scholar Award and the Coffey Outstanding Teacher Awards recognize faculty members who have excelled in meeting the following criteria:

1. Strength in teaching as determined by the cumulative faculty record and by student evaluations of teaching.

2. Contribution to the teaching profession through extracurricular achievements, leadership responsibilities, and scholarly activities.

The University will award one (1) Cunningham Outstanding Teacher/Scholar Award and one (1) Coffey Outstanding Teaching Award each year.

Any UT Martin Faculty, UT Martin Student, UT Martin Alumnus or UT Martin Administrative Staff Member may nominate a faculty member for the award.

Please note the following eligibility requirements:

A. In order to be eligible for the Cunningham/Coffey awards, a person must be a full-time, tenure-track faculty member whose normal duties include at least 50% teaching and who has taught at UT Martin for the last four consecutive years.

B. Faculty members will not be eligible for more than one teaching award per year. Faculty members who have won the Cunningham or the Coffey Award will not be eligible to apply for either of those awards again for a period of five (5) years.

Nomination Procedure:
In a detailed letter of no more than two (2) single-spaced pages (Times or Courier, 10 or 12 font), detail the nominee's accomplishments and contributions in teaching. You may also discuss the nominee's accomplishments in scholarship and service.

Each College has established criteria for selecting finalists for these awards. Review the criteria determined by your nominee's College and address that criteria in your letter. Criteria can be obtained in the Office of Research, Grants and Contracts, 100 Administration Building.

Letters of Nomination are due to the Dean of the nominee's College by 4:30 on September 1. If this date falls on a weekend or holiday, the deadline will be extended to the next regular business day.
