Progression in Admission to the Social Work Program

The progression through the social work program will take a minimum of five semesters to complete your social work course requirements. Additional semesters may be necessary for completion of general education requirements. Consult with a social work advisor for more information.


1st Semester

  • SW 220 Understanding Human Diversity and Oppressed Populations
  • Application is submitted for Initial Progression


2nd Semester

  • SW 300 Social Welfare Policies and Services
  • SW 320 Human Behavior and the Social Environment I


3rd Semester

  • SW 330 Human Behavior and the Social Environment II
  • SW 340 Social Work Practice I
  • SW 350 Social Work Skills and Techniques
  • SW Elective
  • SW 410 Social Work Research and Evaluation
  • Application is submitted for Advanced Progression


4th Semester

  • SW 400 Social Work Practice II
  • SW 440 Social Work Practice III
  • SW 460 Social Work Senior Seminar
  • SW 470 Social Work Field Instruction Preparation
  • Application is submitted for Full Progression


5th Semester

  • SW 490 Social Work Field Instruction


Perhaps the greatest strength in the Social Work Program is field instruction.
