Structural History of UT MartinName(s) of Building: McWherter Agriculture Complex and the West Tennessee Agriculture Pavilion
Construction Dates: 1983-1984, 1988-1989 Cost: $2,042,418; $977,650 Brief History: The West Tennessee Agriculture Pavilion, an 82,000 square foot multi-purpose facility, was completed in May of 1984 on the site of Lovelace house and a post-war faculty/married student housing complex irreverently termed "Incubator Hill." Its main feature is a 24,000 square foot indoor rodeo arena. The building seats 3,000 people and incorporates an 32-stall animal holding area, tack room, and grooming areas. A 150-stall barn was built adjacent to the pavilion in 1989. The building was officially named the McWherter Agriculture Complex in 1995, honoring Weakley County native Governor Ned Ray McWherter. |
