The Oral History Collection mainly consists of interviews of historically significant individuals from Weakley County and the surrounding region. The collection consists of interviews with regional business men and women, local and state politicians, and other individuals who recall significant events from the turn of the century to the present. Areas of focus include the First and Second World War, the Great Depression, the Flood of 1937, and numerous stories on local culture and folklore.

The West Tennessee Heritage Study Center is available as a public resource as a unit of the University of Tennessee at Martin. Though it is maintained at a public institution, its acquisitions and equipment are provided and supported primarily by private funds.
