Immunizations

All enrolling students are required by state law to provide proof of 2 MMRs (measles, mumps, rubella) prior to beginning classes. This vaccine is available at Student Health Services for a fee of $15.00.

On October 20, 1999, the CDC's Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices voted to recommend that college students, particularly freshman living in residence halls, be educated about meningitis, a potentially fatal bacterial infection, and the benefits of the vaccine which protects against four types of the bacteria that cause meningitis in the United States. These types account for nearly two thirds of meningitis cases among college students. Cases of meningitis among teens and adults 15 to 24 years of age have more that doubled since 1991. The disease strikes about 3,000 Americans each year and claims about 300 lives. Between 100 and 125 cases occur on college campuses and as many as 15 students will die from the disease. Student Health Services is now offering the vaccine for meningococcal disease. For those students who elect to receive the vaccine the cost will be $70.00 at Student Health Services.

Please contact our office for any further information on vaccines.
