Student Success Center - CLEP Testing

Please callĀ 731.881.7727, or visit 211 Clement Hall, to schedule a CLEP exam. The CLEP exam is offered during regular office hours and occaisionally on Saturdays. The total cost of a CLEP exam is $105. $80 is payable to CLEP by credit card or check, and $25 is payable to UT Martin by check or cash.

What is CLEP?

CLEP (College-Level Examination Program) is a computer-based exam that allows individuals to earn college credit by demonstrating prior knowledge of a subject.  The 90 minute exams are composed of multiple-choice questions.  Official score reports are available immediately after the test. Your exam scores are also sent to your designated institutions.

You do not have to be a UT Martin student in order to take the CLEP tests. If you have not been admitted to UT Martin, CLEP credits will be held in a "CLEP credit bank" and will be included in your college transcript when admission requirements have been met. A University of Tennessee at Martin student will be allowed to take only 30 hours via CLEP examinations.  CLEP subject exams must be taken prior to the last 30 hours at UT Martin.

In order to prepare for CLEP exams you may wish to purchase The College Board Guide to CLEP Examinations, available at the UT Martin Bookstore. The guide has information that is helpful in preparing for the general and subject exams. Be sure to visit CLEP online for more information about scoring and credits. College-level textbooks are useful in preparing for CLEP exams, and other study materials are available at major bookstores.
