GED Testing Information


GED Examinations
The Student Success Center administers the General Education Development test for those persons who did not graduate from High school. One may earn the High School Equivalency Diploma upon passing the GED Test.

 

Qualifications
An applicant must be 19 years of age to take the examination. Applicants attending school the year of their 19th birthday must furnish a letter of withdrawal from the principal of the school attended. Residents of Kentucky must secure form DAEL-6 from a high school superintendent requesting that the GED test be administered at The University Of Tennessee at Martin and submit it with an application to UT Martin.

 

Registration & Cost
All GED candidates are required to by the state to attend an Adult Education Center (AEC) in their area.  AEC must administer a GED pre-test to the candidate.  After which, the AEC will make an appointment with UT Martin for the candidate.  They will provide a notarized copy of the Official Transcript of GED practice test results, the 8 page demographic, a copy of the state driver’s license, and the test fee of $55 paid by the student.  This fee is nonrefundable.  If the GED candidate fails to show on the scheduled test date, a $20 NO SHOW fee will be charged to the candidate. 

 

Items Needed on Test Day
A picture ID will be required of all applicants on the test day.  A state driver’s license photo, a state approved non-driver’s identification, or a government photo identification is acceptable.  NO EXCEPTIONS WILL BE MADE.

 

Tests

The test consists of five parts, each of which has a time limit. A five to ten minutes break may be taken between each test with a lunch break of no more than 45 minutes.

 

7:30-7:45  Identification and Orientation
Writing Skills 55 questions - 1 hour & 15 minutes
Writing Skills Essay - 45 minutes
Mathematics 50 questions - 1 hour & 30 minutes
Social Studies 50 questions - 1 hour & 10 minutes
Science 50 questions - 1 hour & 20 minutes
Reading Skills 40 questions - 1 hour & 05 minutes

 

Where & When
Applicants should report to 211 Clement Hall by 7:30 a.m. on the test date.

 

Re-Test
A re-test examination must be scheduled prior to date requested. Accommodations will be made as space is available. A re-test fee of $11.00 per test is required. The NO SHOW fee is also applicable to re-tests.

Tuesday 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.
Wednesday 8 a.m. unitl 5 p.m.
Thursday 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. (Testing)
