Thanks for visiting! This site is your resource for everything trombone at the University of Tennessee at Martin. You can find information about the trombone studio, faculty, events, audition information, and much more.
The UTM Trombone Studio, better known as the UTMBones, is built on a tradition of excellence and is dedicated to preparing trombonists for success not only as educators and performers in the world of music, but also as citizens of the world.
It is our goal to prepare trombonists to have no limitations once they have completed the program. Many UTMBones members will become skilled on multiple trombones including alto, tenor, and bass and will also be exposed to a variety of styles by way of the Trombone Choir, Jazz Bones, and trombone chamber ensembles. Individual studio instruction has a “total trombone” approach that is supported by both large and small ensemble experiences.
Dr. Frye is dedicated to upholding and furthering the established tradition of excellence in trombone performance and pedagogy and will work to adapt the goals of the studio to meet the ever-evolving needs of future generations of musicians while cultivating the artistic integrity needed for long-term musical success.
