UT Martin tuition increase rate slows to 4.6 percent

MARTIN, Tenn. - The cost for Tennessee students attending the University of Tennessee at Martin will increase $84 per semester, beginning this fall. The UT Board of Trustees approved a 4.6 percent tuition increase for UT Martin during the board’s annual meeting this week in Knoxville. The 4.6 percent increase is half the amount of the increase approved last year.

In-state tuition and fees, including the increase, will now cost undergraduate students $2,330.50 per semester to attend the Martin campus. Full-time undergraduate enrollment is a minimum of 12 hours.

“Our legislators are to be congratulated in providing more state funding and thus reducing the student tuition increase. The 4.6 percent tuition increase should minimize the negative impact on access to higher education,” said Dr. Nick Dunagan, UT Martin chancellor. “As we all know, if we are to move forward as a state, we need to educate more students, not fewer students. The $500 increase in the lottery scholarship, recently approved by the Tennessee General Assembly, will offset this increase for a large percentage of our entering freshmen.”

“Our Office of Student Financial Assistance is dedicated to helping all UT Martin students meet the cost of earning a degree,” Dunagan added. “This assistance comes in many forms, including grants, work study and other scholarships.

“I sincerely believe that one of the greatest investments a student can make to ensure economic options and a satisfying quality of life is money spent to earn a college degree.”

Tuition for graduate students at UT Martin also will increase by 4.6 percent. At UT Martin, in-state graduate tuition and fees will increase from $2,597 to $2,697 per semester this fall. Out-of-state graduate tuition and fees will increase from $7,124 to $7,431. Full-time graduate enrollment is nine hours per semester.

New College, the university’s online degree program, continues to expand its course offerings. Beginning in fall 2006, the per credit hour fee will be $207 for in-state undergraduates and $223 for out-of-state undergraduates. Graduate fees will be $323 for in-state students and $357 for out-of-state students.
