Fair to highlight travel-study, study-abroad programs

 

MARTIN, Tenn.–The University of Tennessee at Martin Center for Global Studies and International Education will sponsor a Travel-Study Fair, 2-5 p.m., Oct. 1, in the first floor hall of Boling University Center. Group leaders will be present to inform UT Martin students, faculty, staff and the public about travel-study and study-abroad programs that will be offered in 2007-08 and to distribute promotional materials. Many of these programs are open to the public.



Proposed travel-study program dates, destinations and faculty group leaders for 2007-08 include the following:
• March 6-15, London, Paris, Dr. Donna Anderson and Brian Donavant, assistant professors of criminal justice;
• March 7-15, Sailing to the Bahamas, Dr. Doug Sterrett, dean of the College of Engineering and Natural Sciences;
• March 7-16, Southern Italy and Sicily, Stan Sieber, professor of history, and San­dra Baker, director of Tennessee Intensive English Program and International Admissions;
• March 7-16, Mexico (Saltillo), Andrew Brown, assistant director for International Initiatives and Dr. Joey Mehlhorn, associate professor of agricultural economics;
• March 7-16, Orleans, Paris, London, Dr. Tom Payne, chairholder, Horace and Sara Dunagan Chair of Excellence in Banking;
• March 7-16, Greece, Dr. John Overby, chair, Department of Management, Marketing and Political Science;
• May 11-24, Ireland, Anna Clark, instructor of English and Dr. Chris Coffman, assistant professor of English;
• May 12-26, Budapest, Prague, Vienna, Dr. Phil Young, chairholder, Hendrix Chair of Excellence in Free Enterprise and Stan Sieber, professor of history;
• May 14-24, Germany (Braunschweig), Dr. Charles Hammond Jr., assistant professor of German;
• May 15-24, Ottawa, Montreal, Quebec City, Dr. Paul Crapo, director, Center for Global Studies and International Education;
• May 18-June 1, The Many Faces of the Holocaust: Berlin, Prague, Cracow and Warsaw, Dr. Alice-Catherine Carls, Tom Elam Distinguished Professor of History;
• May 23-June 4, Japan (Hirosaki), Kyoko Hammond, instructor of Japanese;
• Aug. 10-21, Western Canada, Dr. Craig Darroch, professor of animal science, and Dr. Philip Smartt, associate professor of agriculture resources management.



UT Martin Study-Abroad Programs for 2008 dates, locations and topics include the following:
• June, University of Orleans, French language/culture;
• July, University of Guanajuato, Spanish language/Mexican culture;
• July-August, University of Quebec at Chicoutimi, French language/Quebec culture; and
• July-August, Technical University Braunschweig, German language/culture.



To help cover the costs of these programs, students may apply to the Center for Global Studies and International Education for Student Government Association scholarships (normally $500) by the following deadlines: Oct. 2, Nov. 1, Jan. 18, and March 3. Scholarship applications are available in the Center for Global Studies and International Education, 124 Gooch Hall.
