MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin Student Members of the American Chemical Society (SMACS) was recently awarded an Innovative Activities Grant (IAG) for its project, “Networking with High School Students for Colorful Demonstrations Involving Transition Metals and Halogens.”
“Videos of selected chemistry demonstrations will be produced by UTM SMACS in collaboration with two area high schools. It should be a great pedagogic experience for all involved,” said Dr. S.K. Airee, SMACS advisor, explaining the project.
The $250 award is based on findings by a team of faculty advisor peer reviewers that determined the UT Martin SMACS chapter to be deserving of the grant because of its innovative, scientifically relevant and inclusive nature.
“… we appreciate your chapter's commitment to community service and public science education,” wrote Christopher Zeigler, education associate at the American Chemical Society.
