'Peace, Love, and Skyhawks' theme for Homecoming 2012

MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin will celebrate its 2012 homecoming with the theme “Peace, Love, and Skyhawks,” Oct. 1-7, at the university’s main campus.

Homecoming 2012 will include the rope pull, pyramid building competitions and a pep rally, among other events. Quad City’s live music, kid’s carnival, reunion and college tents, a petting farm, carnival games, food and fellowship will be a focal point from 10:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m., Oct. 6, in the Quad. At 2 p.m., Oct. 6, the Skyhawks will face Eastern Illinois University at Hardy M. Graham Stadium.

The community is also invited to participate in the unveiling of three new bronze statues at 10 a.m., Oct. 6, outside the main entrance to the Kathleen and Tom Elam Center. The privately funded statues will be loose likenesses of retired women’s athletic director Bettye Giles, head coach emeritus of the UT Lady Vols and UT Martin alumnae Pat Head Summitt, and the late UT Martin women’s basketball coach Nadine Gearin. UT President DiPietro will be on hand, along with several members past and present of Coach Summitt’s staff and players.

• 7 p.m. – Lip Sync Show, Pacer Pond
• 8:45 p.m. – Homecoming Court Announcement, Pacer Pond

Wednesday, Oct. 3
• 4 p.m. – Rope Pull, Pacer Pond

Thursday, Oct. 4
• 4 p.m. – Rope Pull, Pacer Pond
• 7 p.m. – Public Relations Student Society of America’s “Womanless Beauty Revue,” Watkins Auditorium, Boling University Center

Friday, Oct. 5
• 3:30 p.m. – Rope Pull Championship, Pacer Pond
• 7:30 p.m. – Dessert Evening, Central Baptist Church, admission
• 7 p.m. – Pyramid and Pep Rally, Elam Center, $2 admission

Saturday, Oct. 6
• 7:30 a.m. – Letterwinner’s Breakfast and Hall of Fame Inductions, Elam Center Concourse
• 8:30 a.m. – Campus recreation former employee reunion, Student Recreation Center
• 10:00 a.m. – Dedication of “Coaches” statues area, Elam Center main entrance
• 10:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. – Quad City featuring Beatles tribute band The Return
• 11 a.m. – Skyhawk football team’s Skyhawk Walk and Memory Lap, Quad near Paul Meek Library
• 2 p.m. – Skyhawks vs. Eastern Illinois University, Hardy M. Graham Stadium
• 5:30 p.m. – Softball Reunion, Bettye Giles Field
• 5:30 p.m. – Young Alumni Reception, Opera House
