MARTIN, Tenn. – At 7 p.m., Oct. 18, in room 120 of the Paul Meek Library on the campus of the University of Tennessee at Martin, those with a novice to long-term enthusiast level of interest in mythology are encouraged to attend a roundtable discussion sponsored by the Joseph Campbell Foundation Mythological RoundTable Group of Martin.
The discussion will center around Joseph Campbell’s “The Power of Myth: Episode 2: The Message of the Myth.” Dr. Nathan Howard, UT Martin associate professor in the Department of History and Philosophy, will comment on the function of ancient Greek mythology in illustrating extremisms in human emotion and exaggerating conventions of ordinary life.
Joseph Campbell Foundation Mythological RoundTable gatherings are open to all intrigued by mythology. The group provides a forum for individuals to share in all things mythological.
Joseph Campbell (1904-1987) was an influential American intellectual and mythologist known for his work in comparative mythology and comparative religion. The Joseph Campbell Foundation is dedicated to protecting, preserving and further pioneering his work. |
