| UT Martin Phi Kappa Phi chapter named "Chapter of Merit, " schedules fall ceremony |

MARTIN, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin chapter of the National Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi has been awarded Chapter of Merit status for 2012.
According to a letter from Mary Todd, Phi Kappa Phi executive director, “the goal of the Chapter Recognition Program is to reward those chapters that have exhibited outstanding performance as a result of the efforts of their volunteer chapter officers.” Only 73 of 318 chapters were designated Chapters of Merit.
Phi Kappa Phi, founded in 1900, is a national honor society based on excellence in scholarship and integrity of character. UT Martin’s charter was granted in 1971, making it the 127th university to host a local chapter.
The chapter’s fall recognition ceremony to induct new members is scheduled for 7 p.m., Oct. 30, in Watkins Auditorium of the Boling University Center. Dr. Chris Baxter, associate professor, Department of Accounting, Finance, Economics, and Political Science, will deliver the fall address, titled “V. O. Key’s Southern Politics: Then and Now.”
After Baxter’s address, freshman and sophomore students currently at the top of their classes in academic performance will be recognized as new Phi Kappa Phi members.
The event is free and open to the public. Friends and family of students being recognized are encouraged to attend.
